We MAYed it.
The lanai is open for training, and we’re past the final snowfall of 2021 (fingers crossed). For the first time in over a year, we’ve planned events: a fun mini-series curated by your coaches, annual workouts we cancelled in 2020 but revived for 2021, and a tribute gathering that remains at the core of our values. As we look ahead, we hope you’ll join us for First Fridays, Murph Day, and Big Floyd.
Read on for upcoming event details!
First Fridays: Defined does Yoga by Candlelight.
Join Coach Kristen DeAngelis on 5/7 at 7:30PM for a chill night with warm vibes.
This one-hour class is all about recovery. Beginning with breathwork to slow your nervous system, this class combines gentle movement and enjoyable stretching to help you chill the f out. This is not a vinyasa flow or power push-up class, so don’t prepare to sweat. Led with gentle candlelight, palo santo, and ending with meditation and sweet sounds, this experience is about finding some quiet time together. Good vibes only. Kombucha tasting to follow!
WHO: All are welcome! You do not have to be a Defined athlete to register for this class. Tell your neighbors, friends, and family! There are currently 4 open spots.
WHAT: Scheduled recovery for you and your community. Bring your own mat, and join our serene scene. Kombucha toast to follow!
WHEN: Friday, May 7th at 7:30PM
WHERE: Defined Training, 3834 N. Broadway
MURPH DAY: A Defined Tradition!
Run, Pull, Push, Squat, Run.
WHO: Murph is a classic CrossFit Hero workout. Because Hero workouts honor the men and women that have fallen in the line of duty, they are meant to challenge both our physical and mental strengths and capabilities. This one is intended to honor Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28th, 2005. This workout was Michael’s favorite workout to do, which he performed wearing a 20lb vest.
WHAT: Defined partitions this workout to be accessible to all. You can complete modified or beginner-level versions of this workout. Your coaches will lead you through a warm-up and help you choose a version of this workout that supports your training.
1 mile Run
100 Pull-Ups
200 Push-Ups
300 Air Squats
1 mile Run
WHEN: Heats will run every hour, beginning at 7AM and concluding with a team celebration following our final heat. Registration goes live on Zen Planner on May 19th.
* Additional heat times will be released if needed.
BIG FLOYD: A Tribute Workout.
Solidarity in action for George Floyd: June 5th
On June 5th, our Defined community will gather again to embody Big Floyd: a tribute workout.
WHO: This tribute workout is dedicated to George Floyd, an innocent Black man who was killed tragically at the hands of law enforcement on May 25, 2020. His killing sparked peaceful protests and riots in over 100 cities in the US. This tragic event became the catalyst to resurfacing the Black Lives Matter movement by highlighting what has already been an issue in our country for so many years—Blacks being targeted and killed by law enforcement—but not felt until video was captured and aired worldwide. George Floyd was known as a peace activist and a respected community leader.
WHAT: This workout was created and organized by Black Power Cleans, a D.C. based Lifting Club that sought to uplift, honor, and acknowledge the Black CrossFit community, by calling upon the whole CrossFit community to honor Black lives with action.
WHY: This workout not only serves as a tribute to George Floyd, but to so many other Black lives lost to police brutality. “We lift for: George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Atatiana Jefferson, Walter Scott, Alton Sterling, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Stephon Clark and sadly, so many more. Rest in Power.”
WHEN: Saturday, June 5th. This will be Defined’s second year uniting as one, to do this tribute together. This event will run indoors, on the patio, and in the park, with a solidarity gathering to follow. More details to follow!
